Sciatica
Sciatica often causes pain in the lower back and can migrate downwards into the glutes and often down the back of the thigh. The pain can be worsened with movement, long periods of sitting and can cause pins and needles in the legs, feet and toes.
Treatment would consist of soft tissue release to the hip flexors, glute release and nerve gliding and flossing techniques to alleviate pain and help the nerve flow freely through its channels.
Piriformis Syndrome
Piriformis syndrome causes a deep, often spread-out pain in the glute muscle, worsened by sitting positions and when the glute is stretched.
Building strength in the surrounding muscles and having soft tissue work to the gluteal region can help reduce symptoms, education on self-release techniques would also be included such as using a foam roller or a tennis ball to pinpoint the area of pain.

Hamstring Tendinopathy
Hamstring tendinopathy can cause pain at the lower portion of the glutes and at the top of the thigh. Often experienced by runners, this can feel like a muscle pull in the hamstring.
Initial treatment will involve isometric exercises to strengthen the tissue, with particular avoidance of any movement that compresses the area, such as stretching or prolonged sitting.

Emma Humphrey2023-01-31 Very professional and thorough treatment. I can actually finally have confidence that I will run again. Anxo Vilas2023-01-18 I went to Active Step after trying over the counter products as well as other podiatrists for years while my condition was getting worse instead of better. The service I got at Active Step couldn't have been any better and I've just been discharged successfully after 12 months of treatment. Jim, Zoe, Sophie and the rest of the team are not only highly professional, but also very personable and I cannot recommend them enough.Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 169 reviews
