A Guide on Guided DolorClast® Therapy

What is Guided DolorClast® Therapy?

Guided DolorClast® Therapy is an evidence-based treatment protocol designed by EMS that combines the DolorClast® High Power Laser and DolorClast® Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy to optimise the treatment outcome by increasing treatment tolerance and symptom relief.

We use the Guided DolorClast® Therapy for those suffering with muscle, tendinopathy or plantar fasciitis symptoms.

What is DolorClast® High Power Laser?

The DolorClast® High Power Laser can provide a quick and strong analgesic effect, by mimicking the effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs without the common side effects and effectively kick-starting the healing process.

What is DolorClast® Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Shockwave promotes regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. The exact physiological mechanism is not entirely understood, however research suggests that the cells at the site of injury undergo microtrauma which promotes the formation of new blood vessels and nerve cells and also inflammatory processes that are associated with the healing process.

How do they work together?

Due to the analgesic and therapeutic benefit of the Guided DolorClast® Laser therapy, patients often find they are able to tolerate a higher, and therefore more therapeutic dose of extracorporeal shockwave treatment.

What can I expect from a treatment?

Step 1: Initially a short dose of the The DolorClast® High Power Laser is used to provide a quick and strong analgesic effect. (See our Laser Blog to find out more how this works)

Step 2: Once the laser has been administered and sufficient time has elapsed for therapeutic benefit, the clinician will then continue with the DolorClast® Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy.

The clinician will use this treatment modality alongside a rehabilitation and progressive loading programme.

Typically how many sessions are required?

This can be dependent on a number of factors, however typically 6 treatment sessions will be required.

Hear what our Jackie had to say;

“I have been suffering from heel pain in my left heel for a couple of years and recently developed pain in both of my calves so I decided it was time to get a professional opinion as to the cause of the pain.

I decided to visit Active Step and was booked in to see Jim for a Musculoskeletal assessment.  Jim ran through the history of my pain  and followed this up with a physical assessment.  At the end of the assessment Jim diagnosed that I had Bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, Left foot insertional, Right foot mid-portion and left foot Plantar Fasciopathy.

Jim prescribed a course of laser and shockwave therapy which has started to improve my pain.

I have always found Jim and all staff at Active Step to be very professional and caring and would have no hesitation in recommending their services.”
